The completion of a vibrant mural now graces the side of the West Shore Theatre, bringing a kaleidoscope of music, cinema, and theatre concepts to life.
From September 3 to 10, 2024, the artist ARCY graced our town with his extraordinary talent, bringing to life his distinct paint-splashed style of large-scale street art that mesmerizes and inspires. With over two decades of honing his craft, ARCY has left his mark across North America, Australia, and Europe, working with renowned institutions such as The Smithsonian Institute, Major League Baseball, America’s National Parks Service, and The Walt Disney Company as a Disney Fine Artist. ARCY’s paint has now illuminated the streets of New Cumberland, a testament to his passion for giving back to humanity through public art.
This stunning mural project came to fruition through a collaboration between Friends of the West Shore Theatre (FOWST) and Sprocket Mural Works, generously funded by the Cumberland County Housing & Redevelopment Authority and uplifted by contributions from our vibrant local community. As the mural unfolded, it coincided with the development of an adjacent pocket park on 3rd Avenue developed by the New Cumberland Borough—intertwining art, beauty, and community connection.
In the spirit of inclusivity, 510 residents and local businesses were invited to lend their voices in choosing the mural’s theme, ensuring that it resonated with the diverse energy and spirit of the New Cumberland community. The artwork now serves as a mirror, reflecting the town’s revitalization and unity pulsing through our streets.
Meg Caruso, co-founder and President of Sprocket Mural Works, expressed her enthusiasm for this project, stating:
“The West Shore Theatre is truly a gem in our community, and its restoration by the Friends of West Shore Theatre has played a significant role in the revitalization of New Cumberland. The FOWST team continues to make a tremendous impact, and we were thrilled to partner with them on this mural project to beautify and celebrate this special place.”
Her sentiment was echoed by FOWST president David Stone, who adds, “I hope this mural inspires others to achieve great things and forever dream. This mural is just the beginning of an exciting initiative in New Cumberland.”
